Abiodun Warns Ogun Transport Unions Against Arbitrary Fare Hikes

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has warned transport unions against arbitrary increases in fares, urging operators to prioritize the welfare of commuters.

Abiodun spoke on Thursday at the Ake Palace Pavilion in Abeokuta during a rally where nine transport unions endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 election.

The unions, under the Transport Alliance for Yayi, include RTEAN, NURTW, OGSPAM, ACOMORAN, AMORAN, ROMO, TORAN, TWORA, and ROTO.

The governor said his administration had invested heavily in transport infrastructure, including the construction and rehabilitation of more than 1,700 kilometers of roads, the Gateway International Airport, and a multimodal transport plan. Recent reports also confirm the state government’s claim of over 1,700 kilometers of roads constructed, reconstructed, or rehabilitated across Ogun.

Abiodun said the investments were intended to create a better environment for transport operators and urged them not to exploit commuters through unjustified fare increases.

“Do not allow them to suffer. Do not increase transport prices arbitrarily,” the governor said.

The endorsement was described by the state secretary of RTEAN and chairman of the rally’s planning committee, Aare Tiwalade Akingbade, as the first time the transport unions had jointly backed a governorship candidate.

Adeola pledged to build on the state’s development, saying Ogun residents were set to witness further growth if elected.

Meanwhile, ACOMORAN National President, Shamsudeen Apelogun, urged transport workers to examine candidates’ records and antecedents before deciding whom to support in the 2027 election.
