Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has said state governors, rather than President Bola Tinubu, should explain how the financial gains from petrol subsidy removal have been used.
Abiodun spoke on Thursday at an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.
Speaking in Yoruba, the governor said the removal of the subsidy had increased allocations to states, making governors better placed to account for the additional funds.
“It is we, state governors, that should make such explanations because it is we that collect the money,” he said.
Abiodun said the additional revenue had been used for projects including roads, schools, housing and support for farmers.
His comments came amid renewed debate over the use of funds generated by the subsidy removal.
The Federal Government said in August that reforms, including subsidy removal, mobilised ₦15.8 trillion for the Federation between June 2023 and December 2025. Of this, ₦5.4 trillion went to the Federal Government, while ₦10.4 trillion was shared by state and local governments.
The figures have continued to fuel calls for greater accountability from all tiers of government over how the additional resources have been spent.
Abiodun also declared that the APC would defeat opposition parties in the 2027 elections.
