Nene Aderibigbe, mother of Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, has criticized the influence of social media on Generation Z, saying it has weakened many young people’s ability to think independently.

Aderibigbe expressed concern over the younger generation’s dependence on smartphones and their tendency to adopt other people’s opinions rather than develop their own ideas.
In a video circulating online, she said social media had negatively influenced how young people think, adding that many failed to recognize their talents despite having significant potential.
“Social media has just turned a lot of things upside down. They don’t have their own thinking again; it is only people’s thinking they use now,” she said.
She advised young people to spend two to three hours away from their phones daily to reflect on their lives, identify their abilities, and practice meditation.
“Take your time; drop your phone down for two, three hours; do mental note; put your head down; take a mental note; or meditate,” she added.
