Kano Tailor Targets Guinness Record With 120-Hour Sewing Marathon

A Kano-based fashion designer, Abdulkadir Hassanul Basari, is attempting to set a Guinness World Record by sewing continuously for 120 hours.

The five-day challenge, tagged Sew for the Nation, began on October 7 and is scheduled to end on Monday, October 12, at the sports complex of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano.

Basari, chief executive officer of Basari Apparels and Textiles Nigeria Limited, said the initiative aims to produce school uniforms for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in public schools.

He announced the project in a video shared on social media on October 1, describing it as an effort to promote vocational skills and inspire young Nigerians.

Basari hopes to surpass the current Guinness World Record of 106 hours, 55 minutes, and 20 seconds, achieved by Nigerian fashion designer Oluwaseun Kuforiji in January 2025 and officially recognized in March of that year.

However, Basari’s attempt will only become an official record if Guinness World Records verifies and approves the evidence submitted.
