Street-pop artiste Slimcase has raised concerns over the rising cost of music promotion in Nigeria, saying the trend is making it increasingly difficult for upcoming artistes to gain visibility.

The ‘Shaku Shaku’ crooner, speaking in a recent interview with Echo Room, claimed that properly promoting a song in Nigeria can now cost as much as ₦265 million.
Slimcase attributed the rising costs partly to the growing influence of dancers, influencers, and content creators, who now charge artists substantial fees to promote songs through their platforms.
He said that while dancers once approached artists for opportunities, they now demand significant payments, adding that even a $200,000 promotion budget may not be enough to make a song successful.
According to him, the high cost of promotion has contributed to the dominance of established artists, leaving many talented newcomers struggling to gain attention.
He called on music executives and other industry stakeholders to address the financial barriers facing emerging artistes and urged Nigerians to listen to and support new talent rather than relying solely on influencers and the media to shape their music choices.
