Anthony Joshua could earn about £75m from his long-awaited heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury in Cardiff on December 11.
The fight, confirmed for the Principality Stadium, is reportedly expected to generate a total purse of around £150m ($198m), with the two former world champions set to share it equally. The figures were reported by The Sun.
If the reported split is accurate, Joshua and Fury would each receive approximately £75m ($99m), giving Joshua the biggest purse of his career. The figure would be about £10m higher than the roughly £65m he has previously earned for a single fight.
The British rivals have spent years trying to make the bout. Their proposed 2021 meeting collapsed after Fury was required to honor his contractual obligation for a trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder.
Both fighters subsequently faced Oleksandr Usyk, who defeated each of them twice. Joshua and Fury will now meet for the first time professionally in what has been billed as one of the biggest all-British heavyweight fights.
The contest was initially linked with venues in the United States, including Madison Square Garden in New York, but Joshua pushed for the fight to be staged in Britain.
“British boxing gave me everything; it changed my life,” Joshua told SunSport, explaining his preference for a UK venue.
The December 11 bout will be streamed globally on Netflix and is reportedly being made without a rematch clause. It could also be the final fight for either heavyweight, with both now in the latter stages of their careers.
The reported £150m purse has not been officially disclosed by the organizers, although promoter Frank Warren has confirmed that both fighters are set to receive record British boxing paydays.
