Manchester United crashed out of the League Cup after surrendering a two-goal lead in a 3-2 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
United raced into a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes, with Shea Lacey and Mason Mount finding the net in quick succession.
However, Brighton mounted a dramatic comeback before half-time when Charalampos Kostoulas pulled one back.
Pascal Groß then leveled for the visitors in the 65th minute before Maxim De Cuyper completed the turnaround four minutes later.
United brought on Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha in search of an equalizer but could not find a way through.
The defeat came four days after United lost 1-0 to Manchester City in the Premier League, leaving Michael Carrick under increased pressure after another disappointing result at Old Trafford.
Brighton advances to the fourth round, while United’s early exit adds to a difficult start to Carrick’s permanent tenure.
