Brazil forward Vinícius Júnior has apologized to fans following the team’s unexpected elimination from the World Cup, describing the defeat as a “huge frustration.”
The five-time champions were knocked out in the Round of 16 after a shock 2–1 loss to Norway. In a message shared on Instagram, the Real Madrid star said he had dedicated himself fully to the tournament and had hoped to deliver success for both fans and his family.
“We had a squad strong enough to go further, but we didn’t achieve it,” Vinícius said. “I apologize and will keep fighting for our dream of returning to the top.”
The 25-year-old scored four goals and registered one assist during the tournament. His post was accompanied by a black-and-white image of him lying on the pitch after the defeat.
Brazil last won the World Cup in 2002 and has since struggled to reclaim its dominance. Despite the setback, national team coordinator Rodrigo Caetano has expressed confidence in head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
