Arsenal has seen an initial bid of around £55 million for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães rejected, as the club looks to strengthen its squad under manager Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners recently made a formal approach for the Brazil international, but Newcastle swiftly turned down the offer, insisting the 28-year-old is not for sale at that price.
Talks between the clubs are understood to be at an early stage, with Arsenal continuing their search for midfield reinforcements ahead of the new season.
Guimarães, who has two years remaining on his contract, remains a key figure for Newcastle and has attracted interest from several top clubs.
