The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has formally admitted Iyabo Obasanjo into its ranks and announced her as its senatorial candidate for Ogun Central ahead of the next elections.

The former lawmaker, who previously represented Ogun Central between 2007 and 2011, recently defected from the All Progressives Congress after failing to secure the party’s governorship nomination.
Her defection was publicly marked at a rally held at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta, where party leaders officially welcomed her back.
Presenting the party’s flag, Ogun PDP Chairman, Abayomi Tella, declared that the party’s leadership had endorsed her candidacy for the Senate seat.
According to him, the move had the backing of the party’s national leadership and reflected confidence in her political experience and capacity.
Taking the oath of allegiance, Obasanjo pledged commitment to the PDP’s principles and promised to prioritise public interest if elected.
She expressed confidence in her electoral chances, describing herself as a strong contender for the position and highlighting her previous legislative record.
The politician had earlier returned to active politics after more than a decade abroad, initially joining the APC before exiting the party over what she described as unfair treatment.
Meanwhile, PDP governorship hopeful Oladipupo Adebutu reiterated his commitment to transparency and local government autonomy, promising prudent management of public resources if elected.
