Global Spotlight: Davido Amplifies Oyo School Abduction at World Cup Concert

Nigerian music star Davido used the global stage of the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles to highlight the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

During his performance on Wednesday night, the singer appeared in a specially designed jacket bearing the names of the 39 missing pupils and seven teachers. The outfit also featured a bold inscription at the back calling for their safe return.

While performing his hit track Fall, Davido repeatedly displayed the message on his outfit, drawing attention to the victims still in captivity.

The artist has previously spoken out on the issue, urging authorities to act swiftly to secure the release of those abducted and stressing the need to address worsening insecurity.

Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian artist Burna Boy is scheduled to perform at the World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico City alongside Shakira.

Burna Boy collaborated with Shakira on the official 2026 World Cup song Dia Dia, which both performers are expected to deliver at the event.

Another Nigerian act, Rema, is also billed to perform at the Los Angeles opening ceremony, sharing the stage with global pop stars including Lisa.
