Okonkwo Sparks Debate, Says Obi Support Could Hand Tinubu Victory

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Kenneth Okonkwo, has cautioned that a fragmented opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election may strengthen the chances of President Bola Tinubu securing another term.

Speaking during an interview, Okonkwo argued that opposition parties must unite under a single platform to mount a credible challenge against the ruling party.

He warned that supporting multiple candidates could split votes and indirectly benefit the incumbent.

Referring to Peter Obi, Okonkwo suggested that backing the former Labour Party presidential candidate outside a broader coalition could weaken the opposition’s overall chances.

He also criticised Obi’s reported withdrawal from coalition talks within the African Democratic Congress, describing it as a reluctance to engage in a competitive primary process.

Okonkwo further claimed that discussions around strategic political alliances, particularly involving regional cooperation, had not been fully embraced by Obi.

He urged voters and political stakeholders to consider the implications of divided support, stressing that unity remains key to any effort aimed at unseating the current administration.
