2027: NDC Vows to Match APC ‘Fire for Fire’

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has vowed to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) “fire for fire” in the 2027 general elections, as it prepares to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council on October 20.

The party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, disclosed this on Saturday in Abuja after a two-day meeting of the National Working Committee.

He said the inauguration would coincide with a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee, where key decisions ahead of the elections would be ratified. The party will also present certificates of return to its candidates and host a dinner to strengthen cooperation among them.

Cleopas said consultations with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had delayed the inauguration, stressing that the leadership wanted to ensure that suitable and loyal individuals were appointed to key positions.

He reaffirmed the party’s support for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, dismissing reports of divisions within its ranks and claims that the party was not prepared for the elections.

The chairman said the NDC had fielded candidates for the presidency, National Assembly, governorship, and state Houses of Assembly, adding that it would work to protect its votes and challenge any attempt to manipulate the electoral process.

Cleopas also disclosed that the party had begun preparations to recruit and train polling agents across the country, urging voters to remain at polling units until their votes were counted.

He further defended the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, against allegations that he was working with the APC to undermine the opposition party’s presidential ticket.

The NDC chairman expressed confidence in the party’s chances, particularly among young voters, and urged all candidates to work with the party’s structures in their campaigns.
